A visiting lecturer at Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) was allegedly tortured by her husband and in-laws in Lahore, leaving her with deep wounds on her face. Police have registered a case against five suspects and arrested the woman’s husband.
Authorities confirmed that the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of Liaquatabad police station, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
According to police officials, the victim filed a complaint stating that she was subjected to severe violence by her husband and members of his family.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case against five individuals, including the woman’s husband and mother-in-law. The police have arrested the husband, while efforts are underway to investigate the involvement of the other accused.
Deep injuries during alleged assault
Police said the alleged violence left the lecturer with deep wounds on her face. The victim told investigators that her husband had assaulted her after she questioned him about his second marriage, which reportedly triggered an argument between the couple.
She also claimed that the accused had physically abused her on previous occasions as well.
In her complaint, the lecturer further alleged that after she informed the police about the abuse, her husband and in-laws confiscated her academic documents, including her MPhil and PhD degrees.
The victim said the documents were taken away by the accused following the dispute.
Investigation underway
Police confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently ongoing. Authorities said further legal action will be taken after completing the inquiry and reviewing evidence against all individuals named in the case.
