Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi telephoned his Sri Lankan counterpart and expressed gratitude for the rescue of the crew of an Iranian naval vessel.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, Araghchi also indicated that Iran may pursue a case against the United States at an international forum.
The two foreign ministers also discussed the changing situation in the Middle East. Sri Lanka voiced serious concern over rising tensions in the region. According to a news agency report, Sri Lanka stressed the importance of diplomatic negotiations for the restoration of peace.
