Apple could be preparing a bold new look for its upcoming iPhone lineup. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant is testing a deep red color option for the iPhone 18 Pro series ahead of its expected September launch.
In his latest report, Mark Gurman revealed that Apple Inc. is testing a “deep red” finish for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
If finalized, this would mark the first time Apple’s Pro and Pro Max models are offered in a red shade. However, the report suggests the finish would lean more toward burgundy rather than a bright, vibrant red.
This potential move signals a shift in Apple’s traditionally conservative Pro color palette.
First red iPhone since iPhone 14 (PRODUCT)RED
The last time Apple released a red iPhone model was with the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in the (PRODUCT)RED edition.
If the deep red option materializes, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup would become the first iPhone models available in red since that release. Notably, this would also be the first time the premium Pro series adopts the color.
Purple and brown likely scrapped
Earlier rumors suggested that Apple was also testing purple and brown finishes for the Pro models.
However, Gurman believes those shades are likely variations of the same red concept. He noted that the tones are “fairly similar,” indicating that purple and brown may not be separate color options after all.
This suggests Apple may streamline its premium color choices around a single standout finish.
Foldable iPhone to stick with classic colors
As for Apple’s highly anticipated foldable iPhone, Gurman reported that the company plans to avoid “fun colors.”
Instead, the foldable model is expected to come in traditional space gray or black, as well as silver or white finishes. This approach aligns with Apple’s tendency to keep new product categories visually understated in their first generation.
Apple is widely expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro models and its first foldable iPhone in September, following its usual annual launch cycle.
While color testing does not guarantee final availability, the possibility of a deep red Pro model is already generating buzz among Apple enthusiasts.
