Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has underscored the importance of accelerating work on projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and stressed the need to expand cooperation in agriculture, information technology, mining and minerals.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the prime minister received the Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, Jiang Zaidong. During the meeting, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the enduring strategic cooperative partnership between Pakistan and China, marked by deep mutual trust, iron-clad friendship and a shared commitment to common interests.
He conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, the Chinese leadership and the people of China on the joyous occasion of the Chinese New Year. He praised China’s consistent and steadfast support for Pakistan on the economic, security and development fronts.
The prime minister made particular reference to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative. Highlighting the need to expedite ongoing CPEC projects, he emphasised enhanced cooperation in agriculture, IT, mining and minerals.
He also reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to provide a secure and conducive environment for Chinese personnel, investments and institutions in the country.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong apprised the Prime Minister of recent developments in Pakistan-China relations and conveyed the good wishes of the Chinese leadership. He reaffirmed China’s firm support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and socio-economic development.
Both sides discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest and agreed to maintain close coordination and consultation in order to contribute to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.
