A man in Malaysia has more teeth than an average person and has secured a world record.
A typical adult has around 32 teeth, but a Malaysian man has 42. The Guinness World Records confirmed that Malaysian resident Prathab Muniandy has 42 teeth, which is 10 more than the usual number.
How the discovery was made
Prathab, 33, said he first realised something unusual in 2021 during a gathering, when he felt he might have more teeth than normal.
After counting them, he found 38 teeth. An X-ray later showed that four more were yet to emerge.
By 2023 the total in his mouth had reached 42. Fortunately, most of the teeth emerged straight and caused no complications.
Public and doctors’ reaction
Prathab said people often react with surprise and struggle to believe that he has 42 teeth instead of the usual 32.
Doctors who examined him also told him that two more teeth are still expected to appear.
Record holders
He has officially received the Guinness title for the ‘most teeth in the mouth of a male’.
Among women, the record belongs to Kalpana Balan of India, who has 38 teeth.
Prathab said it feels remarkable and special to know that he holds the world record for having the most teeth.
