WhatsApp is introducing a visual redesign to its messaging interface, with the latest update featuring more rounded chat bubbles as part of a refreshed user experience.
According to reports from WABetaInfo, the update version v2.2.6.10.2 for Android replaces the traditional speech-bubble style messages that have been part of the app for years. The new design softens the edges of chat bubbles, giving them a more rounded appearance intended to match modern smartphone design trends.
The update also removes the classic speech-bubble “tail,” allowing messages to align more neatly with the sides of the screen. This adjustment reduces unused space and eliminates uneven indents, creating a cleaner and more streamlined chat layout.
In addition to the design changes, parent company Meta Platforms is reportedly exploring a new “Premium” tier for WhatsApp. The paid option could offer additional customization features such as unique app icons, special themes, custom ringtones and the ability to pin more chats than currently allowed in the standard free version.
Some beta users may already see a banner in the Settings section inviting them to join a waitlist for the Premium tier. Participation is optional, but those who sign up could gain early access if the feature officially launches.
Meta has long been searching for ways to generate revenue from WhatsApp, which has billions of daily active users. Introducing optional premium features could provide a new path for monetization while keeping the core messaging service free.
