Indian rapper Badshah has landed in legal trouble after authorities raised concerns over his Haryanvi music video Tateeree.
The Haryana State Commission for Women has asked police to take strict action after the rapper failed to appear before the panel to explain the controversial content.
The controversy erupted shortly after the release of Tateeree, with critics questioning its lyrics and visuals.
According to the Haryana State Commission for Women, parts of the song and video contain language and imagery that appear disrespectful toward women and young girls.
On Friday, commission chairperson Renu Bhatia said the rapper had failed to appear before the panel despite receiving an official notice earlier this month.
Notice issued for appearance in Panipat
Officials said a notice issued on March 6 directed Badshah to appear before the commission in Panipat by 3 PM on Friday.
The panel had sought an explanation regarding the controversial lyrics and scenes shown in the music video.
However, the rapper did not attend the scheduled hearing, prompting the commission to escalate the matter.
Authorities seek travel restrictions
Speaking to reporters, Renu Bhatia said she had asked the Superintendent of Police in Panipat to ensure strict action against the artist.
She also urged authorities to prevent the rapper from leaving the country and recommended that his passport be seized if necessary.
The move is aimed at ensuring that he cooperates with the investigation.
Investigators have also raised objections to certain scenes in the video.
According to officials, the music video shows schoolgirls in uniform throwing their bags and running out of school, which authorities believe could send the wrong message about education.
The commission further alleged that some words used in the song are derogatory toward women, adding to the controversy surrounding the release.
