Responding to statements by the United States Director of National Intelligence regarding Pakistan’s missile capabilities, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Tahir Andrabi, categorically rejected the allegations, emphasizing that Pakistan’s strategic arsenal is strictly defensive.
“The purpose of Pakistan’s missile programme is to safeguard national sovereignty and maintain peace and stability in South Asia,” Andrabi said. He clarified that Pakistan’s missiles remain well below intercontinental range and operate within the framework of credible minimum deterrence in relation to India.
The spokesperson contrasted this with India’s development of missiles exceeding 12,000 kilometers, describing it as a trajectory that goes beyond regional security needs and raises concerns for the neighborhood and beyond.
Andrabi stressed Pakistan’s commitment to constructive engagement with the United States, grounded in mutual respect, factual accuracy, and a balanced approach. He urged Washington to adopt a more measured assessment that aligns with South Asia’s strategic imperatives and promotes peace, security, and regional stability.
