On the occasion of Ashura, strict security arrangements were in place across the country. A total of 4,836 processions were taken out and 5,480 Majalis-e-Aza were held.The
Ministry of Interior said 1,301 areas across the country were declared highly sensitive.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that all security forces and administrative bodies were on high alert to maintain peace and order on Ashura. A crackdown against sectarianism and religious hatred on social media is underway. The Interior Minister paid tribute to the army, rangers, police, administration, and other departments for their efforts.
Interior Ministry stated that the central monitoring cell is in continuous contact with the provincial control rooms. The Federal Interior Minister, Minister of State, and Secretary Interior are closely monitoring the situation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is being kept continuously informed about the security situation across the country.
In Islamabad, 54 Majalis and 12 processions were held. In Punjab, 2,502 Majalis and 3,025 processions were taken out. In Sindh, 1,039 processions were held, while 257 processions were conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Strict security measures were also implemented in Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
