Jim Carrey made a rare public appearance at the César Awards in Paris, accompanied by his daughter, grandson, and partner, to receive a lifetime achievement honor.
Rumours and online speculation about the actor’s presence quickly surfaced following the February 26 ceremony.
Following Carrey’s appearance at France’s premier film awards — often described as the French equivalent of the Oscars — social media buzz questioned whether it was truly the actor on stage. His presence marked one of his first public outings in months.
Before the César Awards, Carrey had last been seen publicly in November 2025, when he inducted Soundgarden into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
César organisers address speculation
Gregory Caulier, general delegate of France’s César Awards, told Variety that Carrey’s visit had been planned since the summer of 2025. Caulier emphasized that the actor was deeply moved by the invitation and had spent months refining his speech in French, seeking guidance on pronunciation to ensure accuracy.
He also noted that Carrey attended with close family and friends, including his longtime publicist, and reunited warmly with collaborator Michel Gondry. “For me, it’s a non-issue. Just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance,” Caulier said about the actor’s appearance.
Official confirmation
Carrey’s representatives confirmed to PEOPLE that he attended the César Awards, accepting his Honorary César Award. The acknowledgment underscores his impact on film and television and highlights his careful preparation for the international ceremony.
