Dubai Police has issued a renewed warning that spreading rumours, sharing false information or circulating content that contradicts official announcements constitutes a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment and heavy fines.
In a statement released on Wednesday, authorities urged residents and social media users to rely solely on information disseminated through official Government of Dubai channels and to refrain from sharing unverified images or reports.
Officials stressed that publishing or forwarding unconfirmed material — particularly content capable of causing fear or panic among the public — would be treated as a legal violation.
“Your social media post may seem ordinary to you, but for others it could be intelligence,” the statement said, calling on users to exercise responsibility and caution in their online activity.
Under existing regulations, offenders face a minimum sentence of two years in prison along with fines starting from 200,000 dirhams (approximately Rs 15.2 million).
