The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved an increase of Rs1.63 per unit in electricity prices, which will be reflected in consumers’ bills for March.
According to details, the rise in electricity charges comes under the monthly fuel adjustment for January. The increase of Rs1.63 per unit will apply to all consumers across the country, including K-Electric users. The overall burden on consumers is expected to exceed Rs15 billion.
The CPPA had requested a hike of Rs1.78 rupees per unit. The Nepra issued the official notification after verifying the data. The increase has been attributed to higher usage of imported LNG, while reduced use of hydropower has also contributed to the rise in prices.
