Tensions escalated along the Pak-Afghan border after Afghan Taliban mortar shells struck civilian areas in Bajaur, injuring five people, including three women, according to security sources.
The attack came after what officials described as setbacks faced by Afghan Taliban forces at the hands of the Pakistan Army.
Security sources said Afghan Taliban shells fell in the Laghrai area and its surroundings in Bajaur, targeting civilian populations. Five people were injured in the mortar shelling. Among them were three women, highlighting the impact of the cross-border attack on non-combatants.
The injured were immediately shifted to Khar Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment, hospital sources confirmed.

Following the attack, strong anger was reported among the people of Bajaur against Afghanistan. Residents expressed outrage over the shelling of civilian areas, with security sources describing the attack as a cowardly act carried out after Afghan Taliban forces faced defeat.
Pakistan forces give ‘befitting reply’
Security officials said Pakistan’s armed forces are delivering a befitting response to the Afghan Taliban’s attacks.
They emphasized that Pakistan’s security forces are always ready to provide an effective and decisive response to any form of border aggression.
Authorities added that troops remain vigilant along the border to prevent further escalation.
Infiltration attempt foiled
In a separate development, an infiltration attempt by a Fitna al-Khawarij terrorist near the Bajaur sector was successfully thwarted.

Security forces captured the militant alive after he crossed the border, security sources said. The detained individual identified himself as Abdullah. Officials confirmed that security forces remain on full alert against any aggression or infiltration attempts.
Heightened security along border
With tensions persisting, security agencies have reinforced monitoring and defensive measures in the Bajaur sector.
Officials reiterated that any aggression will be met with a firm and proportionate response, while ensuring the protection of civilians living in border regions.
