All the hard work put in by Salman Ali Agha, who struck 106 to register his third ODI century in a testing situation for Pakistan, went in vain as Bangladesh secured another one-day series against the visitors in Mirpur on Sunday.
Pakistan fell short by 11 runs in the third ODI at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, handing Bangladesh victory in the three-match contest. The result marked Pakistan’s second successive ODI series defeat in Bangladesh since the whitewash of 2015.
Earlier, Bangladesh posted 290 for five in their 50 overs after a commanding century by Tanzid Hasan, who struck 107 from 107 balls with six fours and seven sixes.
Saif Hassan added 36 at the top while captain Najmul Hossain Shanto made 27. Litton Das contributed 41 and Towhid Hridoy remained unbeaten on 48 to guide Bangladesh to a competitive total.
For Pakistan, Haris Rauf returned figures of three for 52, while Shaheen Shah Afridi and Abrar Ahmed claimed one wicket each.
Chasing 291, Pakistan suffered early setbacks as Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat and Mohammad Rizwan fell cheaply.
Salman Agha steadied the innings with a determined knock of 106 from 98 balls, striking nine fours and four sixes. Saad Masood supported with 38 while captain Shaheen Shah Afridi added a late 37.
Pakistan, however, lost wickets at crucial moments. In the final over Afridi missed a delivery completely and was stumped by Litton Das off Rishad Hossain, ending the innings at 279 in 49.6 overs.
Bangladesh, therefore, secured the three-match ODI series 2–1.
