Mobile phone users in Pakistan may soon experience 5G services, with authorities aiming to roll out the next-generation network before Eid-ul-Fitr.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is accelerating preparations to issue licenses to telecom operators following the recent 5G spectrum auction.
According to sources, PTA officials have already prepared the 5G licenses, and telecom operators are expected to receive them next week.
Once the licenses are issued, telecom companies will be able to launch 5G services across the country, potentially before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Telecom operators preparing for 5G launch
Sources say the three telecom companies that purchased the 5G spectrum have been instructed to complete all legal requirements quickly so the licensing process can move forward without delays.
The government wants to issue licenses to all three companies simultaneously, ensuring that operators can begin providing services at the same time.
Telecom companies have also made preparations for the immediate launch of 5G services once the licenses are granted.
Bank guarantee requirement for licenses
According to PTA sources, each telecom company must submit a bank guarantee of $15 million before receiving the 5G license.
So far, one company has already submitted the bank guarantee, while the remaining two operators are expected to complete the requirement soon.
Fulfilling this financial obligation is a key step before the regulator formally grants the licenses.
Sources say authorities are also considering holding a formal 5G license issuance ceremony at PTA headquarters in Islamabad. The ceremony would mark the final step before telecom companies begin rolling out the new technology nationwide.
Govt aims to launch 5G before Eid
Officials say the government is keen to pave the way for the launch of 5G services before Eid-ul-Fitr, allowing mobile phone users to celebrate the holiday with faster and more advanced connectivity.
If the licensing process is completed as planned next week, Pakistan’s telecom sector could soon enter the 5G era, bringing improved internet speeds and enhanced digital services.
