The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday rejected recent reports asserting a delay in the upcoming elections, labeling them as "completely baseless and misleading."
In a statement, the electoral watchdog spokesperson emphasised, "The Commission strongly denies any delay in the elections. Such reports lack any factual basis and are mere speculations.
"We assure the public that the electoral process is on track, and elections will be conducted as scheduled," added the spox,
Furthermore, he refuted allegations regarding the non-preparation of election lists, asserting that such claims are entirely false.
"The Election Commission has been diligently working to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the voter lists. Any insinuations otherwise are unfounded," stated the spokesperson.
Expressing the Commission's commitment to upholding the integrity of the electoral process, he announced, "It has been decided to take legal action against those spreading false news regarding the election schedule and preparation status. This includes a referral against the individuals responsible for such misinformation to the Prime Minister's office."
The spokesperson warned that legal consequences await those who continue to spread misleading information about the elections.
"We will not tolerate any attempts to undermine the public's trust in the electoral process. Legal action will be taken against individuals or entities found guilty of spreading false news," declared the spox.
Highlighting the Commission's readiness to substantiate their claims, he also added, "Transcripts and recordings of news broadcasts on various channels are available. We encourage the media to verify information from official sources before disseminating news to the public."
