A meeting of the Petroleum Prices Monitoring Committee took place under the chairmanship of the federal finance minister, during which the enforcement of fuel conservation measures in case of need came under consideration, while strict action against hoarding and smuggling received approval.
The finance minister said the committee would place its recommendations before the prime minister tomorrow, adding that the situation remains under daily monitoring.
A briefing informed the meeting that the country holds ample reserves of petroleum products, while fluctuations in global oil prices continue. Concerns also arose over pressure from emergency premiums and high freight charges.
The government expressed resolve that oil supplies within the country would not suffer disruption, while steps to import oil through alternative routes also came under review.
According to the Ministry of Finance, joint monitoring by the provinces and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority continues, while the situation regarding LNG and LPG also came under review.
