Speed limits on motorways and national highways have been reduced in view of fuel conservation, a spokesperson for the Motorway Police said.
On motorways, the speed limit for cars and light transport vehicles has been fixed at 100 kilometres per hour. Passenger and goods vehicles on motorways will travel at a maximum speed of 90 kilometres per hour.
On highways, the speed limit for cars and LTV transport has been set at 80 kilometres per hour, the Motorway Police spokesperson said.
Passenger and goods vehicles on highways will move at a maximum speed of 65 kilometres per hour.
The change in speed limits has been made for efficient use of energy and to save fuel, according to the spokesperson.
The National Highways and Motorway Police has begun a countrywide awareness campaign regarding the new speed limits.
