Captain (r) Azfar Mahesar, DIG of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), held a press conference confirming the foiling of a terrorist plot targeting railway tracks in Karachi.
He stated that no specific security threat is expected on Eid, although various general threat alerts remain in effect.
The operation led to the arrest of five suspects - identified as Commander Jhano, Niaz, Noor Muhammad, Ali Jan, and Jamak - who were active along the Sindh border regions.
According to the DIG, the militants had received training in Lehri, Balochistan and are part of a sub-branch of a banned extremist organization, operating with support from a neighboring country and assistance from India’s Research & Analysis Wing (RAW).
Weapons seized from the suspects included two IEDs and three pistols.
The DIG noted that no terrorist incident occurred in Sindh in 2025 and emphasized that Karachi’s security situation remains under control.
The arrested individuals were reportedly involved in previous bombings in Shikarpur and Jacobabad. CTD had gathered intelligence on their network, which is linked to operations originating from the neighboring country.
The suspects reportedly transported explosives and weapons under the cover of family members to evade law enforcement detection. The operation was conducted in coordination with federal intelligence agencies and Rangers.
Captain Azfar Maheser also highlighted that extremist organizations like the BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army), BLF, and other groups receive external support, posing continued security challenges in the region.
