The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) is set to indict former prime minister Imran Khan and ex-foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on February 6 in connection with the May 9 riot cases.
The ATC proceedings, overseen by Judge Malik Ijaz within Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail on Thursday, addressed the charges against PTI leaders.
Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi appeared before the court, with the former premier asserting that his arrest on May 9, at the Islamabad High Court (IHC), was unlawful.
Imran expressed discontent, stating that instead of receiving justice, he faced what he deemed as vindictive legal actions.
During the hearing, the police submitted challans related to the May 9 cases, encompassing allegations related to the GHQ attack and vandalism of sensitive institutions.
The judge extended the judicial remand for both accused PTI leaders until February 6, approving the challans for further hearing and instructing that copies be provided to the accused in the subsequent session.
In a prior development, on December 12, a special court operating under the Official Secrets Act re-indicted Imran and Qureshi in the cypher case.
The charge sheet detailed their public flaunting of a classified document during a March 27, 2022 rally, exploiting it for personal gain.
The charges emphasized that these actions had detrimental effects on the nation's reputation, security, and diplomatic affairs.
Subsequently, on January 9, the former PM and his wife, Bushra Bibi, faced indictment in the Toshakhana graft case.
The court, in the same case, rejected the bail application submitted by the PTI founding chairman.
