The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued on Saturday a public advisory regarding the responsible use of social media.
Citizens have been directed to refrain from sharing or forwarding any unverified, provocative or misleading content which may directly or indirectly harm the national interest, public order or state institutions.
The advisory stated that, in view of the current sensitive national situation, responsibility must be exercised in the use of social media and digital platforms.
Moreover, the citizens have been asked to share only information or material based on authentic and official sources.
Complete avoidance of rumours and fake news has been stressed. The advisory warned that legal action may be taken against those involved in spreading false news, rumours or misinformation.
The PTA has appealed to citizens to act upon the advisory with a spirit of national responsibility.
