Pakistan national team captain Salman Ali Agha has said any decision to step down from the captaincy in the aftermath of the side’s exit from the World Cup would be an emotional one.
Speaking to the media after Pakistan were knocked out of the tournament, Agha said such a move could not be taken in haste. “It would be an emotional decision to leave the captaincy at this stage. We will return home and then see,” he remarked.
He said he had performed well at number three in the series against Sri Lanka but had not fared well in the World Cup. “I did not play well in the World Cup. It would be emotional to decide on leaving the captaincy now. We will go back and then consider it,” he added.
He said team selections were made through collective decisions. “When a team is formed, it is done with everyone’s input,” he observed.
Agha also said Babar had a different role in the World Cup, whether batting first or later in the innings. He added that a player like Fakhar was required in such conditions, though Fakhar Zaman’s form had not been strong earlier.
He termed Khawaja Nafay as a 'good product' and said he could be the future of the Pakistan team. Hasan Nawaz and others, he added, were also part of the plan and would be seen in due course.
