The Punjab government has decided to further expand the scope of the Crime Control Department (CCD) in a bid to curb crime across the province.
According to details surfaced on Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has decided to develop the CCD into the premier investigation agency. The chief minister has approved the establishment of a headquarters equipped with the latest technology and equipment.
The department will receive modern forensic facilities, advanced investigative skills, modern technology and AI software.
Modern intelligence surveillance systems, machinery and equipment will equip CCD units and transform the organisation into one of the most modern institutions in Pakistan. The chief minister has also approved the construction of a headquarters fitted with state-of-the-art equipment.
A new law to curb illegal weapons and the establishment of a modern research centre have also received approval. Modern equipment for tracing and monitoring criminals will also be supplied to the CCD.
Offices, police stations and residential facilities for staff will be established in every division, district and tehsil of Punjab. Approval has also been granted for a province-wide campaign against illegal weapons after Eid al‑Fitr.
