An unusual incident took place during the 2nd ODI match between Pakistan and Bangladesh when Salman Ali Agha lost his wicket after standing outside the crease while returning the ball to the bowler.
The incident occurred in the 39th over, bowled by Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Mohammad Rizwan was on strike, while Salman Ali Agha stood at the non-striker’s end.
Miraz delivered the fourth ball of the over, which Rizwan blocked. The ball rolled towards the other end and stopped near the feet of Salman Ali Agha.
Agha bent down to hand the ball back to the bowler. At that moment, Miraz quickly picked up the ball and threw it at the stumps. Agha stood outside the crease at the time.
The bowler appealed for the dismissal. The on-field umpire faced uncertainty and referred the matter to the third umpire, who ruled Salman Ali Agha out.
Agha returned to the pavilion after scoring 64 runs off 62 balls.
Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez criticised the action of Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Hafeez has termed the dismissal as poor sportsmanship.
Not new from Bangladesh
It may be recalled that during the 2023 World Cup, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan timed out Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews, a decision that sparked debate on social media.
