Former US ambassador and seasoned policymaker Susan Rice, who currently serves on the board of Netflix, has become the center of a political dispute after former US President Donald Trump publicly demanded her dismissal from the company’s board.
Trump made the call in a post on his social media platform, asserting that Netflix should fire Rice or “pay the consequences.”
Rice, a prominent figure in American diplomacy who previously served as US Ambassador to the United Nations and as National Security Adviser under the Barack Obama administration, drew Trump’s ire after remarks she made on a podcast.
In that interview, she warned that corporations that have accommodated Trump might be held accountable if Democrats regain power, a statement that drew criticism from Trump and conservative commentators.
Trump’s comments come at a sensitive time for Netflix, which is competing with Paramount Skydance in a high-profile bid to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery - a deal currently under regulatory scrutiny for potential antitrust concerns.
In his social media post, Trump labeled Rice a “political hack” and questioned her qualifications, insisting she should be removed immediately. Netflix has not publicly commented on Trump’s demand, and Rice herself has not issued a response to the controversy.
The episode highlights the growing intersection of corporate governance, politics, and media influence in the U.S., as tensions between political figures and business leaders play out on national and corporate stages.
