China has recently announced that a robot has successfully repaired a 10-kilovolt power line, effectively replacing a human electrician in the process.
The robot was developed by the Hubei Electric Power Research Institute in collaboration with State Grid Wuhan Electric Power Company. It uses precise laser-cutting technology to remove rigid insulation, connect secondary wires to the main line, and tighten connections with high accuracy.
According to technician Wu Xin from the State Grid Wuhan team, the robot can navigate highly complex wiring systems. More importantly, he noted, the technology eliminates the risk of fatal electric shocks for workers.
The groundbreaking operation was carried out in Chongxin County of Hubei province and aims to improve safety for personnel who work with power infrastructure in hazardous environments.
