China said it would give a donation to the parents of pupils killed in a missile strike on a primary school for girls in Iran during the early days of the Middle East conflict.
Tehran accused the United States and Israel of a deadly missile attack on the school in southern Iran on the first day of the war.
Iranian media reported that funeral prayers took place for at least 165 people, including the schoolgirls killed in the strike, scenes that left mourners in tears. US President Donald Trump, however, rejected the accusation and instead blamed Iran for the attack.
China’s foreign ministry said the Chinese Red Cross Society would provide an emergency humanitarian donation to the Iranian Red Crescent Society, particularly as a gesture of condolence and support for the parents of the girls killed in the strike.
Foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun termed the attack as a grave violation of international humanitarian law.
He said attacks on schools and children were serious breaches of international humanitarian law and fell below even the most basic standards of human conscience and morality.
China, he said, stood ready to provide necessary humanitarian assistance to the Iranian people during this difficult period.
According to The New York Times, a US military inquiry found that an American Tomahawk missile struck the school.
