Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered a strict crackdown on transporters charging excessive fares during Eid, emphasizing that exploitation of passengers, particularly the poor, will not be tolerated.
Maryam Nawaz directed the Transport Department and other authorities to take legal action against transporters charging more than the fixed fare during the Eid period. She stressed that all districts must implement fare regulations and ensure continuous monitoring on the ground.
“Exploitation of poor passengers returning home on Eid will not be allowed,” the Chief Minister said.
Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with strict monitoring, including ticket blacklisting for violators. Authorities are also instructed to clearly display fares at all bus stands to prevent overcharging.
