The Bangladesh government has decided to set up an inquiry committee to examine the country’s absence from the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
According to details that emerged on Wednesday indicate the committee will seek to establish the reasons behind Bangladesh’s non-participation in the tournament. Bangladesh's sports minister Aminul Haque said efforts would be made to determine why the country did not take part in the World Cup.
He said it was necessary to understand why Bangladesh’s sports diplomacy had failed. The sports minister added that, after Eid, a separate inquiry committee would also be formed to review the matter.
He said another committee was already at work in connection with elections of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
A decision on the future of the board would be taken after consultation with the International Cricket Council, he added.
The sports minister had said the previous government had interfered in last year’s board elections.
Haque said a committee had been established over allegations of rigging in the elections and would submit its report within 15 days.
