Karachi is reeling from devastation after heavy rains and strong winds triggered multiple fatal incidents across the city. At least 19 people have lost their lives, while dozens more were injured as authorities scramble to manage the aftermath.
The most tragic incident occurred near Baldia’s Medina Colony (Mowach Goth area), where a wall collapse claimed 13 lives. In Malir, a man identified as Imran died after being struck by lightning during the storm.
In Majeed Colony, a husband and wife lost their lives when a wall collapsed, while in Bhains Colony, a four-year-old girl died after a roof caved in.
Overall, at least 19 deaths have been confirmed due to rain-related accidents across Karachi.
Dozens injured as accidents surge
Rescue officials reported a sharp rise in injuries linked to the extreme weather. According to hospital sources, six bodies were brought to Jinnah Hospital overnight, while 76 injured individuals were treated for various accidents.
Earlier reports indicated that more than 50 people were injured, highlighting the scale of the crisis as multiple incidents unfolded simultaneously across the city.
Rain has been continuing intermittently in Karachi since last night, with light to moderate showers reported in several areas. Light rain was observed in Saddar, Zainab Market, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Gurumandir, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Scheme 33, and along the Super Highway.
Other affected areas include Ayesha Manzil, FB Area, MA Jinnah Road, Kharadar, Mithadar, and Tower. Meanwhile, heavy rain with thunder and strong winds hit parts of the city.
The Met Department has forecast that light to heavy rain may continue intermittently throughout the day, with further rain expected during Eid as well.
Rainwater has accumulated in several parts of Karachi, worsening commuting conditions and increasing the risk of further accidents. Authorities have begun removing fallen trees and signboards from roads to restore normalcy.
Strong winds, reported at around 4–5 kilometers per hour, contributed to structural damage across multiple neighborhoods.
Power supply disrupted
The city’s power system has been significantly affected by the rains.
A spokesperson for K-Electric confirmed that restoration efforts are ongoing, with electricity supply already resumed on approximately 1,950 out of 2,100 feeders.
Power has been restored in areas, including Khayaban-e-Ittehad, Muslim Commercial, Eidgah Ground, Afshani Street, Kalakot, Golden Town, Asifabad, Sabzi Mandi, FB Area Blocks 9 and 14, and Gulshan-e-Maymar.
K-Electric teams remain active in the field to address local faults. Citizens have been advised to stay away from electrical infrastructure, including poles and exposed wires, to avoid accidents.
Weather forecast
The Met Department reports that Karachi will remain partly cloudy, with chances of thunderstorms and strong winds. The minimum temperature recorded was 18.5°C, while the maximum is expected to range between 27°C and 29°C.
Winds are currently blowing from the northwest at around four kilometers per hour.
