Renowned royal photographer Chris Jackson captured a poignant moment as Princess Catherine returned to The Royal Marsden Hospital in January 2025, where she had previously undergone cancer treatment.
Jackson described the deeply emotional scene as the Princess of Wales announced that she is in remission. “You can often find yourself in these incredible historic moments,” he told Us Weekly. He added that, as a royal photographer, being present during such moments requires attention to both decorum and the emotions of those involved.
Recounting the visit, Jackson said, “I will never forget as she was walking up the stairs—she literally glanced up, and I felt in that millisecond there were memories of that place.” He noted the significance of the hospital for Kate, who clearly valued seeing the doctors, nurses, and patients who had been part of her journey.
During the engagement, staff lined the corridors to catch a glimpse of her. Jackson recalled one staff member giving her a warm hug, and Kate taking time to speak with several patients undergoing their own treatment. “She was listening to everything they had to say,” he said.
Jackson described the visit as “a really meaningful engagement,” highlighting the Princess’s compassion and connection with the hospital community.
