A surge of viral videos showing large flocks of crows circling the skies has triggered widespread online speculation, with some users calling it a “sign of doom” amid rising regional tensions.
Social media platforms have been flooded with clips capturing dense groups of crows flying over Tel Aviv.
The unusual visuals quickly sparked alarm, with many users interpreting the birds’ behavior as a warning of an impending catastrophe, especially in light of recent missile strikes in the region.
Ancient beliefs resurface online
The speculation has drawn heavily on historical beliefs, particularly Roman augury, where the movement of birds was once seen as a predictor of major events, including the fall of empires.
Some commentators have even suggested that the sightings signal a withdrawal of “divine protection,” echoing wartime superstitions once prevalent in Europe.
Environmental experts and scientists, however, are pushing back against such interpretations.

According to ornithologist Yaron Charka, the phenomenon coincides with the peak of the spring migration season.
He noted that despite ongoing conflict, birds will continue their natural routes “by hook or by crook” to reach nesting grounds.
Experts believe the large gatherings are more likely driven by practical factors such as urban disturbances or the availability of food.
Rather than being a supernatural sign, the movement of crows reflects their instinctive adaptation to environmental conditions.
