Centre is considering the implementation of a smart lockdown as regional tensions escalate.
A key meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Zardari later today is expected to shape the country’s next steps.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will meet President Asif Ali Zardari this evening to review the evolving situation.
Senior leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, the finance minister, and the petroleum minister, are expected to attend. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will also be present during the discussions.
According to sources, the meeting will include a detailed briefing on the possible implementation of a smart lockdown across the country.
The move is being considered in response to rising regional tensions and the need to manage internal challenges effectively.
Focus on regional tensions and diplomacy
Officials are also expected to discuss Pakistan’s offer to mediate in the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
The leadership will review diplomatic efforts and assess how Pakistan can contribute to de-escalation in the region.
Separately, the Sindh government has already initiated key austerity steps in response to the situation.
A work-from-home policy has been announced for Friday, while the provincial cabinet has decided to forgo three months’ salary.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon said the provincial government would align with any federal decisions aimed at preventing fuel shortages.
He added that the government would continue taking measures until the situation is fully under control. If a nationwide lockdown is imposed, Sindh will also implement it accordingly.
