Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday that sufficient quantities of petroleum products were available to meet the country’s needs.
Chairing a meeting to review measures on fuel conservation and austerity, the prime minister said that public relief had been given top priority in the prevailing situation. He said that, as far as possible, relief had been provided to the public over the past three weeks.
The prime minister said the federal government had allocated Rs125 billion through various savings and cuts in the development budget. He said the purpose of the relief was to shield the public from the direct effects of global tensions.
Participants of the meeting urged the public to support the government’s conservation campaign and avoid unnecessary travel, adding that the preference should be given to teleconferencing at offices and workplaces.
The prime minister also directed provincial governments to facilitate motorcycle and rickshaw owners in registering their vehicles in their own names. PM Shehbaz has directed that data of motorcycles and rickshaws across the country be digitised.
He said the measure would ensure that owners are able to benefit from relief provided by the government in the future.
The prime minister also instructed the relevant authorities to expedite coordination with the chief secretaries of all four provinces, as well as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
