The Foreign Office spokesperson, Tahir Hussain Andrabi, rejected on Saturday the statement issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding Pakistan’s Shia community.
According to the spokesperson, the Indian statement represents a malicious attempt to divert attention from the facts. Expressions of concern regarding Pakistan’s Shia community deviate from reality, and such remarks cannot conceal India’s own record.
He said that in India, discrimination and violence against Muslims, Christians, and other minorities is routine. Incidents range from restrictions on worship to mob-led so-called justice. There is documented evidence of attacks on homes and livelihoods.
Andrabi termed the increasing incidents of Muslims being killed by mobs in India as extremely reprehensible. These events reflect an environment of uncontrollable brutality, and India must ensure the protection of Muslims, Christians, and other communities.
The statement added that in 2025, more than 55 Muslims were allegedly killed by mobs. Since January 2026, more than 19 Muslims have been killed by violent mobs. Extremist groups have illegally attempted to demolish 11 mosques. India should refrain from making unfounded statements driven by political motives.
