The committee tasked with amending the rules governing the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has given its nod to the draft amendments. These changes encompass significant alterations in the procedures for appointing judges to the Supreme Court and High Courts.
During the committee session, a thorough examination of the draft rules was undertaken, aimed at refining the process of judge appointments in the country's constitutional courts.
Discussions revolved around various aspects, including the protocols for summoning meetings and conducting proceedings within the judicial commission. Additionally, nomination procedures for high court appointments, as well as amendments to the rules and regulations, were subjects of detailed scrutiny.
Further, the committee delved into reviewing the Rules of Representation concerning District Judiciary and Bars. One notable aspect that surfaced was the establishment of a dedicated secretariat for the judicial commission, along with the deliberation on the appointment of a secretary and support staff for the said secretariat.
The proposed amendments, once finalized, are expected to be presented for the Judicial Commission's comprehensive review and final approval in its upcoming meeting.
