The Missing Persons Commission has released its monthly progress report, shedding light on its efforts to address cases of enforced disappearances and missing individuals.
According to the report, the commission handled 33 cases in March. Among the notable achievements highlighted in the report, the commission successfully traced 27 missing persons during the month, with 18 individuals reunited with their families.
Additionally, six cases were disposed of as not related to enforced disappearances, providing closure to affected families.
Among the traced individuals, eight are lodged in different jails and one has been located in a detention centre. However, despite these accomplishments, the report also revealed that 18 new cases of enforced disappearances were received in March.
Moreover, the report disclosed that as of April 1, 2,302 cases of missing persons remain pending, indicating the magnitude of the task at hand.
Since its inception, the Missing Persons Commission has received a total of 10,185 cases, demonstrating the widespread impact of enforced disappearances in the country. As of April 1, a total of 7,868 cases have been disposed of, reflecting the commission's commitment to upholding human rights and ensuring accountability.
