Owing to rising oil prices in the international market, the government has raised the price of kerosene oil by Rs70.73 per litre with effect from today (Saturday).
According to a notification, the new price of kerosene oil now stands at Rs428.74 per litre following the increase. The revised rate has come into force from today. Last week, kerosene oil was also increased by Rs39.20 per litre.
It is pertinent to note that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the prices of petrol and diesel will remain unchanged. He rejected a proposal to further increase petroleum product prices and decided against any rise.
The prime minister stated that the proposal to increase prices had been turned down in view of the festive occasion of Eid. A proposal had suggested an increase of Rs50 per litre in petrol and Rs74 per litre in diesel, which he declined. He added that Rs69 billion had already been spent to prevent an increase of Rs127 per litre on petrol and Rs252 per litre on diesel.
