The company behind ChatGPT, OpenAI, has announced plans to nearly double its workforce by the end of 2026.
According to a news agency report, the firm intends to expand its staff to around 8,000 employees in order to maintain its lead in the intensifying global competition in artificial intelligence.
At present, the company employs approximately 4,500 people. Most of the new hires are to be made in product development, engineering, research and sales.
The company has also outlined plans to recruit experts under a “technical ambassadorship” programme to help businesses make more effective use of OpenAI’s tools.
OpenAI’s latest funding round values the company at $840 billion, with major technology firms and SoftBank participating in an investment round of $110 billion.
Financial analysts state that the hiring drive and product-focused strategy are reshaping the company’s direction and its approach to delivering services in the market.
The report added that OpenAI issued an internal “code red” in December 2025 in response to Google’s Gemini 3 model, halted non-essential projects, and directed teams towards development work.
