Iranian Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has said that attacks on the country’s power plants and critical infrastructure should be avoided, cautioning that any such action would render installations across the region legitimate targets.
He said Iran would deliver a strong and effective response to any assault, adding that facilities in the region would be destroyed in an irreversible manner. He further warned that strikes on energy installations would drive oil prices to their highest levels.
Meanwhile, following threats by Donald Trump to target power plants, a spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters said that any attack on such sites would prompt strikes on American energy installations. He added that regional IT infrastructure and desalination plants would also be targeted.
Earlier, Iran’s energy minister said in a statement that enemy attacks had caused severe damage to the water and electricity system. Dozens of water and sanitation centres were struck, while parts of key installations were damaged in US and Israeli strikes. Repair work, he added, is under way.
