Lahore Qalandars have fined captain Shaheen Shah Afridi Rs1 million following a security breach at the team hotel. The franchise said the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding but stressed accountability and discipline.
Lahore Qalandars confirmed that they conducted a comprehensive internal investigation into an incident that took place on March 28.
According to the franchise, the review found that an unusual situation occurred at the team hotel involving a violation of security protocol. Following the inquiry, Shaheen Afridi was fined Rs1 million as part of disciplinary action.
Officials revealed that the issue involved unauthorised entry into the players’ room. Shaheen Afridi had reportedly taken guests of teammate Sikandar Raza into the players’ area despite security staff refusing permission.
The franchise emphasized that while the breach occurred, it was not intentional.
Franchise calls incident misunderstanding
In its official statement, Lahore Qalandars clarified that the matter resulted from a misunderstanding rather than a deliberate violation. The franchise also stated that the incident had been exaggerated in public and presented inaccurately in some reports.
It reiterated its respect for all security protocols and stressed the importance of discipline within the team environment.
Lahore Qalandars confirmed that they had formally informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about the decision after completing the inquiry.
