Heavy rains have caused widespread destruction in Bannu and neighboring districts, killing nine people and injuring 47, according to a preliminary report by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
In Bannu, the roofs of several houses gave way under the heavy rains, resulting in nine deaths and 40 injuries.
Several affected areas reported serious structural damage, with emergency teams rushing to rescue trapped residents.
Verandah collapse kills two children
In Kotka Ghulam Qadir, a verandah collapse claimed the lives of two children and injured 35 others.
The PDMA coordinated rescue operations, helping evacuate those trapped under debris and providing immediate medical assistance.
Additional casualties reported
- Walkhai Mamakhel saw two children die and one injured due to a roof collapse.
- In Shamdi Qala Mandi, a woman lost her life when her roof caved in under the torrential rain.
These incidents highlight the vulnerability of older and poorly constructed buildings during heavy rainfall.
The PDMA’s preliminary report warns that intermittent rains are expected to continue in the province until Tuesday.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid weak structures, and follow safety directives to prevent further casualties.
