Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Iran is prepared to allow Japan and related ships to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Kyodo News, Araghchi stated that talks with Japanese authorities have already begun, aimed at a temporary easing of obstacles in the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, a Japanese government official said that direct negotiations with Iran remain the most effective way to end the blockade of the strait.
The official added that even if Japanese vessels are temporarily allowed to pass, it would not significantly resolve the ongoing global energy crisis.
Another official from Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the actual intentions behind Abbas Araghchi’s statement require careful assessment.
