United States President Donald Trump said that military objectives in the Middle East were nearing completion.
In a post on a social media platform, Trump said consideration was being given to winding down ongoing operations in the region. He stated that the aim was to render Iran’s missile capability and launch systems completely ineffective, adding that the destruction of Iran’s defence industrial structure had become a principal priority.
Trump said there was a plan to eliminate Iran’s navy and air force, including its anti-aircraft systems. He said Iran would not be allowed to approach nuclear capability under any circumstances, and added that the United States could respond swiftly and forcefully to any situation.
He said that allies, including Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait, would be protected in every way. He added that monitoring of the Strait of Hormuz was the responsibility of countries using the route, with the United States ready to assist if required.
