A 15-year-old boy in Germany took a bus from a transport company without permission and drove it 80 miles to collect his girlfriend from a school in another city.
The incident occurred last Friday when the boy from Wiesbaden entered a bus depot unnoticed, gained access to the master keys, and drove away with a bus. Although CCTV captured the theft, the staff initially assumed one of their drivers had taken the vehicle.
The bus was taken at 6 a.m., but the police were not informed until after noon. The company first believed that a driver had mistakenly taken the wrong bus. When all staff were checked, it became clear that the bus had been stolen.
Using the bus’s GPS system, the police soon located it in Karlsruhe, approximately 130 kilometres (80 miles) from Wiesbaden, where a patrol car spotted the vehicle. Officers were astonished to find a young boy at the wheel, returning his girlfriend to Wiesbaden.
A police spokesperson said that they still do not know how the boy obtained the keys or how he managed to drive the bus so skilfully. Investigations continue, and the boy faces several charges, including theft and driving without a licence.
