The government has prepared a mobile application to offer fuel subsidies to low-income citizens.
According to details surfaced on Wednesday, the sources from the Ministry of Petroleum said the system is in the final stages of testing. A quota-based fuel scheme for motorcycles and rickshaws has been decided. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and the relevant ministries have completed the fuel quota system.
Users’ fuel quotas will be linked to their registration number and identity card. Digital vouchers will be issued through the mobile application. Specific nozzles at petrol pumps will be reserved for subsidised fuel.
The government will provide a dedicated mobile app for retailers. Vehicles up to 800 cc have not yet been included in the scheme. Sources divulged that oil marketing companies will assign a focal person at each petrol pump.
A 24-hour monitoring system will be active to address complaints. An alternative system has also been prepared for fuel supply in emergency situations. Maintaining petrol and diesel prices over two weeks resulted in a burden of Rs70 billion. The fuel supply chain is under pressure due to rising demand and foreign exchange shortages.
