At least 12 U.S. troops were injured Friday in an Iranian missile and drone attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, marking the latest escalation in the ongoing U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.
The assault comes hours after Israeli strikes hit key Iranian nuclear sites.
Iran launched a coordinated strike on Prince Sultan Air Base, using missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. Officials reported that two U.S. personnel suffered serious injuries, while ten others were concussed. Several U.S. refueling aircraft were damaged in the attack.
According to Iranian state media, the assault was part of the Revolutionary Guards’ 84th wave of attacks under Operation Promised Sadiq IV, which also targeted American personnel along the Dubai coast and in a hotel.
Widespread regional attacks
Iranian media further reported that six U.S. tactical ships at Shuwaikh port in Kuwait were attacked, leaving three warships sunk and three others on fire. Russian outlets noted that Iranian missiles struck high-rise buildings in Tel Aviv, forcing civilians into shelters as sirens blared.
At the same time, Israeli and U.S. forces continued attacks on Iranian infrastructure, including the Bushehr power plant, Akhandab water facility, and the University of Science and Technology in Tehran.
Casualties and damage
At Prince Sultan Air Base, the twelve injured Americans were inside a building struck by missiles and drones. Two suffered serious injuries, while the rest were concussed. Multiple U.S. refueling aircraft were damaged, raising concerns about operational readiness at the strategic Saudi base.
Earlier in the conflict, seven Army reservists died in a drone attack at Port Shuaiba in Kuwait, and six airmen were killed in a non-combat KC-135 crash in Iraq. More than 300 U.S. service members have been wounded since the war began, with most returning to duty.
Nuclear facilities hit in Iran
Hours before the Saudi base attack, Israel targeted Iranian nuclear infrastructure. The Shahid Khondab Heavy Water Complex in Arak and the Ardakan yellowcake production plant in Yazd Province were struck. Iranian officials confirmed there were no casualties or radiation leaks.
Yellowcake, a concentrated form of uranium, is processed for enrichment, while heavy water is essential for certain types of nuclear reactors. Israel stated that the strikes dealt a major blow to Iran’s nuclear program.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the attacks, warning that Tehran would exact a “heavy price” for the assault on its facilities.
