Former caretaker prime minister Anwarul Haq Kakar has spoken out on the wheat import controversy, asserting that the decision was made with the sole intention of providing affordable bread to the masses.
In a recent appearance on Samaa TV’s program “Mere Sawaal,” he emphasized that the import decision was a response to a request from the Food Security Department and was not influenced by any individual or group.
Kakar pointed out that the private sector’s wheat import this year was significantly higher than the government's import last year, and questioned why this aspect was being overlooked.
The former interim PM vehemently denied any wrongdoing and expressed his willingness to face investigation and emphasized that the issue should not be politicized, urging for accountability without bias.
While reiterating his commitment to accountability and transparency, the former caretaker PM said that if the wheat import decision is deemed an economic scandal, it should be exposed and those responsible held accountable.
He reiterated that his government’s priority was the common man, and that he had acted in good faith to ensure affordable bread for all. He challenged his critics to produce evidence of any personal gain or wrongdoing, and offered to face the consequences if any irregularities were found.
Addressing concerns about accountability, Kakar stated that he had not received a summons from the inquiry committee but affirmed his willingness to cooperate if called for investigation. He expressed frustration with attempts to twist the narrative, urging slanderers to introspect.
