The investigation into Dr. Fazeela Abbasi’s alleged money laundering case has taken a new turn, with fresh revelations pointing to the possible involvement of close family members.
Sources say investigators have uncovered suspicious financial activity involving her mother and actor brother, further intensifying the probe.
According to sources, Fazeela Abbasi’s mother and her actor brother were also allegedly involved in the financial dealings under investigation. It is claimed that transactions were carried out using a joint bank account held by her mother and Hamza Abbasi.
Large foreign transfers
Investigators revealed that millions of dollars and dirhams were transferred abroad, raising serious concerns about financial transparency. Sources further claimed that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) did not detect these transactions at the time.
The investigation found that Fazeela Abbasi submitted tax returns for only three bank accounts. Irregularities were reportedly identified even within these declared accounts, adding to the suspicions of financial misreporting.
Failure to provide evidence
Sources said that the suspect failed to provide details or documentary evidence explaining the origin of millions of dollars transferred abroad.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has termed her explanation unsatisfactory due to the absence of receipts or supporting documentation.

According to investigators, receipts worth $200,000 were found in the names of a driver and friends, raising further red flags. The FIA stated that this explanation is legally unacceptable, particularly because the amounts were not disclosed in tax returns.
Mismatch between income, transactions
Authorities also noted that the financial transactions under scrutiny have no apparent connection with the profession or declared income of the suspect. The FIA has emphasized that this discrepancy further weakens the defence presented by Fazeela Abbasi.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities examine the full extent of the alleged money laundering network. Officials are expected to continue scrutinising financial records and related individuals as the probe progresses.
