Under the government’s austerity campaign, the Senate secretariat has deposited more than Rs265 million into the national exchequer.
Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gilani said the Upper House fully supports government measures for national economic stability. On the direction of the Senate chairman, the amount was submitted by the secretariat. Gilani also directed strict adherence to austerity measures. He said efforts continue to identify more savings and additional funds would also be deposited into the national exchequer.
He said financial discipline is indispensable in the present economic conditions. Gilani said parliamentary affairs and the legislative process would not be affected. According to the secretariat, a transparent and accountable financial system would be maintained.
